Renovation of a Bathroom at Arni, Canton of Aargau
In this beautiful maisonette in the village of Arni, the owner needed a fresh note in the master bedroom’s bathroom. This bathroom lacked personality and style. Essentially, its boundary conditions constrained the owner from creativity. The “fixed” elements beige plates, white porcelain sink and bathtub, golden faucets led to the name given by the owner: “the Dubai bathroom”. However, due to the lack of convenient storage places, daily used objects ruined the looks and the owner could not determine which direction to follow for the various decorative and functional items.
She addressed us with the aim of helping her find a concept, an idea how to transform her bathroom without the need of expensive construction interventions; she had bought this house just a few years ago. The changes we proposed focused on the decorative part, finding the way in a sense to make a 2002-built bathroom look stylish and modern.
The heavy work that still needed to be done was for the freshening up. The walls were painted in white to make them bright, fresh and clean, and the mirror was changed with a cabinet mirror. As mentioned above, there was not enough convenient storage space for everyday products, that need to be readily and easily accessible, resulting in these products ruining any effort for a creative and inspirative bathroom decoration. A large double cabinet mirror was chosen for this reason.
This master bedroom and its bathroom were at the attic of the house and therefore both had a sloping roof. Due to the small windows of such attics, we wanted it to be as bright as possible and to take advantage of any sunlight that could penetrate the north-east side bathroom. Therefore, the decorative direction and colours were defined and could not be anything other than white and gold. All selected objects were based on white and gold and had the aim to combine function with decoration. White wooden shelves, white towels, rich white fluffy mats, all objects surrounding the sink (dispenser, toothbrush holder etc.) in white with gold finishing. In this way, the old modish black details of the floor were somewhat cancelled out.
Inspiration tales developed the main concept, provided recommendations for shops and products and the owner turned her Dubai bathroom into her own bathroom in Switzerland.
